Reading the EBA feedback files

The EBA answers every package with a ZIP file holding two CSV files: instance-status.csv with the outcome for the package as a whole, and detailed-feedback.csv with one row per finding (EBA explainer (opens in a new tab)). This page explains both, using the EBA's sample responses.

The AFM and the .txt file

As an AFM filer, you receive the EBA's feedback as a .txt file in the AFM Portal (AFM Q&A (opens in a new tab)). The AFM doesn't publish how that file is laid out. We don't know whether it holds the CSV files below verbatim. The fields and codes are the EBA's, though, so look up the code.

The three statuses

The feedbackMain field gives the status. If a package is rejected, you get one response. If it is received, you get two: first an acknowledgement, then the results (EBA explainer (opens in a new tab)).

The response is named after your package, followed by the suffix and a timestamp of its own, for example …_2025-03-31_20250320120441498_RES_20250405164729943.zip (EBA explainer (opens in a new tab)).

This file has two columns: a field name and a value. The EBA's rejected sample (EBA (opens in a new tab)):

Field	What it tells you
receivedFile	The file this response is about. Check that it's your latest submission.
receivedTime	When the EBA received the package.
receivedFrom, receivedOver	Technical details of how the package arrived.
feedbackMain	The status: REJECTED, PENDING_FURTHER_VALIDATIONS or VALIDATION_RESULTS.
feedbackText	A summary, such as the code that caused the rejection, or "No findings found".

In this sample the package was rejected on code 103: the ZIP contained a .txt file.

If offendingValue is empty, nothing was entered. The row b_05_01,1,c0080,e23674_e,Value should not be missing, reports that field 0080 in B_05.01, the country of the provider's headquarters, is empty.

Three things to watch:

• Look up the ruleCode, not the text. The messages contain typos and aren't always unique. Our error-code reference lists every code in the EBA's published catalogue.
• Row numbers: the EBA's explainer doesn't say how rows are counted. Find the row by the offending value and the key fields, not by the number alone.
• Codes outside the catalogue: the samples' feedbackText also cites VR_21, VR_85, VR_87 and VR_99, which are not in the EBA's catalogue (EBA (opens in a new tab)). If you get such a code, email us the feedback file.

The sample responses concern a fictitious Belgian consolidated filing with reference date 31 March 2025. They show how the files are built, not what your own register will produce.

What to do next

• REJECTED: fix the error named and file again, with a new timestamp in the file name (AFM (opens in a new tab)).
• VALIDATION_RESULTS with findings: the package was received. Fix the findings in your workbook; the AFM welcomes corrections that improve data quality (AFM (opens in a new tab)).
• VALIDATION_RESULTS without findings: feedbackText says "No findings found" and detailed-feedback.csv holds only the header.
